vrm.1.1 "In valour Rama is comparable with Vishnu, and in his looks he is attractive like full moon, he equals the earth in his perseverance, but he is matchable with era end fire in his wrath.
vrm.1.3 The birth of Rama as an incarnation of Vishnu, his very great valour, his gracefulness to all, his universal cordiality, perseverance, courteousness, and his truthful conduct, Valmiki described them all.
vrm.1.11 b, a Then all the citizens are very happy on seeing that Brahman, Sage Rishyasringa, who is well honoured and being entered into the city by their king Dasharatha, as has been done once by Indra when he entered sage Kashyapa s son Vamana, the dwarfish boy and the incarnation of Vishnu, into heavens, and thus those citizens felt that their human lord Dasharatha vies with divine lord Indra.
vrm.1.15 In the meanwhile the great resplendent Vishnu, the Lord of the Universe, arrived there mounted on his Eagle vehicle Garuda, handling conch shell, disc, and mace in his three of four hands, clad in yellow ochre robes, wearing golden bracelets, and while best Devas eulogised him, and his arrival there is like the arrival of sun mounted on black cloud to accord the gratuitous gift called the rain.
vrm.1.15 Vishnu having met Brahma stood there contemplating, and then all of the Devas on bowing down and offering prayers addressed Vishnu.
vrm.1.15 "Oh! Vishnu, desiring prosperity in all the worlds we nominate you to become the son of the ruler and lord of Ayodhya, namely Dasharatha, who is a virtuous one, renowned one and one whose resplendence equals that of the sages, and oh, Vishnu, through the wives of such a king Dasharatha, who are in similitude with the Hri, the virtue, Shrii, the affluence, and Kiirti, the glory, you have a fourfold transformation and take birth as their son.
vrm.1.15 "Oh! Vishnu, on your taking birth as human through the wives of Dasharatha you eliminate Ravana in war, who has become exacerbating and thorny to all worlds, and who is otherwise not eliminable for Devas.
vrm.1.15 b, a "Oh, enemy tormentor, oh, Vishnu, you are the ultimate recourse for all us in eliminating enemies of divinity, hence you make up your mind to take birth in human world.
vrm.1.15 The Devas appealed to Vishnu that way.
vrm.1.15 b, a When the god of Devas Vishnu, the supreme one among deities, one who is revered by all worlds is eulogised this way, then he spoke to all of those that abide in the righteousness and that are in the assemblage, keeping the Forefather Brahma at their helm.
vrm.1.15 Thus Vishnu assured the Devas.
vrm.1.15 On giving boon to all Devas in that way the kind hearted god Vishnu started to think about the instituting base for his birth in human world.
vrm.1.15 b, a Then all the groups of Devas, Sages, Gandharva s, with Rudra s, and Apsarasa s, extolled Vishnu with prayers of divine exposition.
vrm.1.15 "Oh! Vishnu, he that fiery one is uprising furiously with his heightened arrogance, and he is a fright to sages and a thorn in the side of hermits, and he is the hater of Indra, hence we pray you to redeem that Ravana.
vrm.1.16 "What is the idea to eliminate that Rakshasa s chief Ravana, oh, Devas, adopting which strategy I will have to eliminate that thorn in the side of Sages?" Thus Vishnu asked the Devas.
vrm.1.16 Asked thus all the Devas said to that sempiternal Vishnu, "on assuming a human form, eliminate Ravana in a war.
vrm.1.16 As such, oh, enemy destroyer Vishnu, his elimination is envisaged through humans alone.
vrm.1.16 So said Devas to Vishnu.
vrm.1.16 b, On hearing that speech of Devas said that way, he that kind hearted Vishnu then chose Dasharatha as his father in human world.
vrm.1.16 On taking a decision Vishnu took leave of Forefather Brahma, and vanished while he is still being extolled by Devas and Sages.
vrm.1.16 Then on seeing his queens with confirmed pregnancies Dasharatha regained his lost heart for sons, and he is gladdened like Vishnu, who will always be gladsome when worshipped by Devas, namely Indra and others, as well as by the assemblages of great souls, sages.
vrm.1.17 When Vishnu attained the sonship of the great souled king Dasharatha, then Brahma the self created addressed all of the Devas this way.
vrm.1.17 abiding and valorous Vishnu who is the well wisher of all of us.
vrm.1.17 Let Vanara shaped progeny equalling Vishnu s valour be procreated from the physiques of prominent Apsara s and Gandharva s, from the girls of Yaksha s and pannaga s, and also thus from the bodies of Kinnaraa s, she Vidyadhara s, she riksha s and she Vanaras, and they shall be wizards of miracles and audacious ones, in travel they shall have air s speed, bestowed with intellect they shall be the knowers of ideation, and with their divine physique they shall be ineliminable, they shall be endowed with all the assaultive aspects of all missiles, and they shall be untiring in their efforts, like you
vrm.1.17 The direct son of Vayu is the marvellous and adventurous Hanuma with an indestructible body, and one identical in the speed of lady Vinata s son, namely Garuda, the divine eagle vehicle of Vishnu, and among all Vanara chiefs he is the intelligent and the indefatigable one too.
vrm.1.18 and Venus are at their highest position, when Jupiter with Moon is ascendant in Cancer, and when day is advancing, then Queen Kausalya gave birth to a son with all the divine attributes like lotus red eyes, lengthy arms, roseate lips, voice like drumbeat, and who took birth to delight the Ikshwaku dynasty, who is adored by all the worlds, and who is the greatly blessed epitome of Vishnu, namely Rama.
vrm.1.18 Queen Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharata, one embodied with all merits, and whose truthfulness itself is his valour and who is fourth component of manifest Vishnu, namely Rama.
vrm.1.18 Queen Sumitra then gave birth to two sons who are the embodied epitomes of Vishnu, namely Lakshmana, and Shatrughna, who are valiant ones and experts in all kinds of weaponry.
vrm.1.25 "And Rama, once Vishnu wiped out even the wife of sage Bhrigu and sage Shukracarya s mother when she wished the world to become one without a governing factor, namely Indra.
vrm.1.27 a Raghava", I am going to give the highly divine Danda disc Punisher disc next, oh, best one among men, Dharma disc Virtue disc, and like that kaala disc Time disc then oh, brave one, Vishnu disc similarly oh, dextrous Rama, Indra disc and Thunderbolt missile the best trident pertaining to Shiva the missile called Brahma shira Brahma crest the missile called the Aishiika missile Grass Blade missile, and that way oh, Raghava, I am going to give the unexcelled and highly formidable missile called Brahma missile.
vrm.1.27 b, a "Oh, Raghava of Kakutstha s, I will give you two missiles named Haya shira The Horse head and Krauncha The Wrester, and two Impellers, one presided over by the power of Vishnu, and the other by the power of Rudra.
vrm.1.29 "Here, oh, dextrous Rama, he who is worshipped by Devas and who has got outstanding ascesis that Vishnu resided here in the pursuit of practising ascesis and yoga for good many years, likewise for a hundred eras.
vrm.1.29 b, a "In the meantime, when Vishnu was in his asceticism in this hermitage, the son of King Virochana, namely Bali, has completely conquered all the assemblages of Devas together with Indra and his coterie called Maruts, and ruling that kingdom where that hermitage is there, he has become renowned in all the three worlds for his magnanimity.
vrm.1.29 But when Bali is conducting that ritual remaining as its officiator all the Devas personally approached Vishnu, keeping Agni ahead of them, just here in this hermitage and they spoke to him.
vrm.1.29 Oh, all pervading god Vishnu, Bali the son of Virochana is conducting an unsurpassed Vedic ritual, before the completion of which our own mission, say the task of Gods, is to be achieved completely.
vrm.1.29 As such, oh, Vishnu, you may effectuate the most suitable merited deed for the welfare of Gods on resorting to your illusory power, Vishnu Maya, and on assuming the form of a dwarf to deal with Emperor Bali.
vrm.1.29 Thus Gods appealed to Vishnu.
vrm.1.29 "In the meanwhile, oh Rama, he whose brilliance is similar to ritual fire, who will be with his wife Lady Aditi, who is resplendent with his own vitality, that godly sage Kaashyapa on completing his asceticism along with Lady Aditi started to eulogise the boon giver and the eliminator of Madhu, namely Vishnu.
vrm.1.29 Sage Kaashyapa praised Vishnu in this way.
vrm.1.29 Vishnu is gladdened for the devotion of sage Kaashyapa who is absolved of any blemish y his ascesis, and then Vishnu said this to, "You may seek a boon as you are boon worthy, I opine that you are a preferred one to me, let safety be with you.
vrm.1.29 Thus Vishnu said to Kaashyapa.
vrm.1.29 On hearing the word of Vishnu sage Kaashyapa, the son of Sage Marichi said, "oh, god the accorder of boons, as you are pleased with us it will be apt of you to bestow the boon besought by Lady Aditi and the Gods, oh, lord with lofty vows, for which boon I am also supplicating to you, following them.
vrm.1.29 So said sage Kaashyapa to Vishnu.
vrm.1.29 "That great resplendent Vishnu then adopting a semblance of a dwarf emerged from Aditi, and that dwarfish ascetic boy approached Emperor Bali, the son of Virochana.
vrm.1.29 Vishnu gave the earth back to Indra restraining Emperor Bali with his vitality.
vrm.1.29 Thus that great resplendent Vishnu made the three worlds to come under the control of Indra again.
vrm.1.29 "This hermitage which at one time is presided by Vishnu, is an eradicator of stress, either the stress and strain caused by the evil on earth, or the stress of going through the cycle of birth and death, thus this hermitage is an accorded of salvation, and I am also beneficed with this hermitage owing to my devotion to Vamana.
vrm.1.38 "The daughter of Aristanemi, namely sage Kashyapa, and who is also the sister of Garuda, the Divine Eagle vehicle of Vishnu, is the second wife of Sagara, who is known by the name Sumati.
vrm.1.40 To whom this Mother Earth belongs in all her entirety, he is that prescient Vasudeva, and she is also the consort of that Madhava, and that Vishnu eternally props up Mother Earth.
vrm.1.40 Hence, that reverential Vishnu donning the semblance of Sage Kapila will burn down the sons of emperor Sagara to ashes in a fire of fury.
vrm.1.40 "Oh, Rama of Kakutstha, then that great souled sage Kapila, rather Vishnu with unimaginable power, has rendered all of those sons of Sagara as heaps of ashes by virtue of his hum sound.
vrm.1.41 "Spanning his expert glances, oh, Rama, he then saw the rapid winged king of Birds, namely Garuda, the Eagle vehicle of Vishnu, who is the maternal uncle of his father and other paternal uncles, and whose flight will be similar to that of the Maruts.
vrm.1.45 "This way while the Gods are praying Mahadeva, namely Shiva, then handling his disc and conch shell Vishnu has also revealed himself at that place.
vrm.1.45 "And Vishnu smilingly spoke to wielder of trident Rudra, oh, god the best, whatever element that has emerged from the churning, that shall belong to you.
vrm.1.45 "Saying so Vishnu, the best one among Gods, has disappeared then and there only.
vrm.1.45 And on observing the scare of Gods and also on paying heed to the words of the Wielder of Bow called Shaaranga, namely Vishnu, god Shiva gulped that lethal poison Haalahala, as if it is Amrita.
vrm.1.45 b, a "Now the loftiest mountain that is being used as stirrer, namely Mountain Mandara, has caved into the netherworld, thereby the Gods along with Gandharva s have prayed to Madhusuudana, the other name of Vishnu.
vrm.1.45 b, a You alone are the recourse to all beings, especially to the dwellers in heavens, oh ambidextrous god Vishnu, you safeguard us, it will be apt of you elevate the mountain.
vrm.1.45 So prayed Gods to Vishnu.
vrm.1.45 "Hearing the prayer of Gods Vishnu, Hrishikesha, adopting the form a tortoise and positioning the stirring Mountain Mandara on that tortoiseshell, he lay recumbent at the bottom of Milky Ocean as a base to the stirrer.
vrm.1.45 b, a Keshava" then reached out his hand and grasped the mountain top as he is the Cosmic Soul, and thus staying amid Gods that Supreme Person Vishnu participated in churning the ocean by holding the stirring mountain upright.
vrm.1.45 "When everything is wading into annihilation then that omnicompetent Vishnu swiftly impounded Amrita, the Divine Elixir, by assuming his illusory power of Mohini.
vrm.1.45 "Whoever confronted that Eternal and Supreme Person, namely Vishnu, in that war, then Vishnu whose blaze is threefold as manifest in the sun, fire and lightning, has pulverised him.
vrm.1.48 "These two youngsters, oh, sage, let safety betide you, striding like audacious Elephants and arrogant Lions, bearing a similitude to adventurous Tigers and adamantine bulls, and wielding quivers, swords, and bows, are valorous with their valour matching that of Vishnu, and with their eyes broad like lotus petals and with youthfulness in the offing they look like the exceptionally beautiful twin Gods, Ashwin brothers, by their physique.
vrm.1.50 b, a "These two youngsters, oh, sage, let safety betide you, striding like audacious Elephants and arrogant Lions, bearing a similitude to adventurous Tigers and adamantine bulls, and wielding quivers, swords, and bows, are valorous with their valour matching that of Vishnu, and with their eyes broad like lotus petals and with youthfulness in the offing they look like the exceptionally beautiful twin Gods, Ashwin brothers, by their physique.
vrm.1.56 "And he launched discs called the Discs of Virtue, Time and Vishnu and he also launched other missiles like the Blower, Stirrer and like that the missile with Horse head.
vrm.1.56 "A pair of powers are launched, namely Power of Vishnu and the Power of Rudra, like that the Impeller, Crowbar, and a great missile called Staggerer, and then he launched the lethal missile of the Time.
vrm.1.62 When you are fastened with sacred fastener to the sacrificial post of Vishnu, smeared with red paste and garlanded with red garlands, you praisefully address the Agni with the words I going to impart to you in Vedic hymns.
vrm.1.70 By the order of the king those envoys who have speedy Horses have travelled on to city Saankaasya speedily, to lead forth that manly tiger Kushadhvaja that speedily, which is as good as fetching Vishnu by order of Indra.
vrm.1.72 All these four sons of Dasharatha have handsomeness and youthfulness, and they are equal to the four rulers of the world from four quarters, and their valour vies with the valour of God Vishnu.
vrm.1.75 "This is the second one and the choicest Gods gave this to Vishnu, thereby this is named after Him as Vishnu s bow.
vrm.1.75 a "Once, all the Gods were asking the Grandparent, Brahma, as to who is powerful and who is less powerful among the blue throated Shiva and Vishnu.
vrm.1.75 but the Grandparent Brahma on inferring the intent of Gods started to create adversity among those two, Shiva and Vishnu, for the Grandparent is the best adherer of truthfulness, as truth cannot be demonstrated on hearsay evidence.
vrm.1.75 "Owing to their animosity then occurred a fierce and hair raising war among Shiva and Vishnu, as each aspired victory for himself.
vrm.1.75 b, a "By the hum sound of Vishnu that ruinously overpowering longbow of Shiva is broken, and the triple eyed God, Mahadeva, is frozen.
vrm.1.75 b, a "Then Gods along with the assemblages of sages and Carana s have come together and appealed to those two for appeasement in the matter of wielding authority, and then those two superior Gods, Shiva and Vishnu, went into a state of amity.
vrm.1.75 "On seeing the bow of Shiva rendered inert by the mettlesomeness of Vishnu, from then on the Gods along with the assemblages of sages deemed Vishnu to be the paramount.
vrm.1.75 b, a "Oh, Rama, this alone is that enemy citadel conquering longbow of Vishnu, and Vishnu handed over this to Sage Riciika, the son of Bhrigu, as a trustworthy trust.
vrm.1.75 Thereby, oh, Rama, wield this supernatural and superlative longbow of Vishnu, which is passed on to me from my forefathers and my father.
vrm.1.76 Raghava, the nimble handed vanquisher of his opponents, speaking thus in high dudgeon expropriated that estimable weapon, namely the longbow of Vishnu, from the hand of Bhargava Rama, along with the long arrow that is already fitted on it.
vrm.1.76 "This Vishnu s divine arrow is the conqueror of opponents citadels, and a vanquisher of their vigour and vainglory, and it will not fall through wastefully.
vrm.1.76 Gods together with the assemblages of sages have come keeping the Grandparent Brahma at their fore, likewise the Gandharva s, Apsara s, Siddha s, Caarana s, Kinnara s, Yaksha s, sprites and reptilian beings have also come to see Rama who is now wielding the extraordinary longbow of Vishnu, and extremely amazing event that is going to ensue.
vrm.1.76 "I have realized your touch of nature as that of the Immutable Supreme Being, God of Gods, the Exterminator of the Madhu, namely Vishnu, by the touch of your handling that bow.
vrm.1.76 While Rama of Jamadagni is speaking that way, that venturesome and blessed Rama of Dasharatha shot off that nonpareil arrow from that longbow of Vishnu.
vrm.1.77 On the departure of Rama of Jamadagni, that most glorious Rama of Dasharatha is quietened at heart, and he gave away that longbow of Vishnu into the hand of inimitable Rain god.
vrm.1.77 When passionately conjugated with such a princess from the irreproachable king Janaka, Rama, the son of sagely king Dasharatha, has enthusiastically shone forth like the God of Gods and the Efficient Cause, namely Vishnu, when He is together with Goddess Lakshmi.
vrm.2.1 That Rama was He not the eternal Vishnu who was born on earth as prayed by Devas to kill the egoistic Ravana? Like Aditi by Indra, best among the Devas, Kausalya shone by her son Rama, the mighty.
vrm.2.2 He is absolutely like the God Vishnu himself in strength, heroism and valour.
vrm.2.2 "Oh fulfiller of people s desires, Dasaratha! For our benefit, you gladly and immediately inaugurate your son Rama, who is equal to Vishnu, who is interested in the welfare of the entire world and who is possessing the best of virtues.
vrm.2.4 Hearing that her son will be anointed for the princely kingdom on the day of Pushyami star, Kausalya with controlled breath, was meditating on lord Vishnu.
vrm.2.4 "O, son! My worship to the lotus eyed Lord Vishnu with endurance has become fruitful.
vrm.2.6 Taking the vessel with clarified butter on his head as per scriptures, he offered to Lord Vishnu the clarified butter, by dropping it into the blazing fire.
vrm.2.6 Rama ate the remainder of clarified butter after finishing the sacrifice, which he performed for his own good, silently meditated on Lord Narayana with controlled mind and slept along with Seetha on a properly laid bed of Kusa grass in a splendid temple of Lord Vishnu.
vrm.2.6 He praised Lord Vishnu by bowing his head before Him.
vrm.2.25 "Let Siva, the lord of all spheres, Brahma, the lord of creation, Vishnu, the nourisher of beings, the sages and the rest of the Celestials may protect you dwelling in the forest.
vrm.2.25 "Oh, Rama! Which good fortune occurred to Vishnu who was immensely glorious while making his three strides, let that good fortune come to you.
vrm.2.56 Having taken bath in the river as prescribed Rama offered oblations to Lord Rudra and Lord Vishnu after offereing tributes to Vaisvadeva.
vrm.2.68 Perceiving a locality called Vishnu padam, Vipasa river, Salmali trees, rivers, ponds, tanks, pools and lakes, as well as seeing many kinds of Lions, Tigers, antelopes and Elephants, they proceeded by that broad lofty high way desirous as they were to execute the command of their master.
vrm.2.118 "O, Seetha! Your body, anointed with these heavenly cosmetics, will cause your husband to look beautiful, as Lakshmi does the imperishable Vishnu.
vrm.3.12 b, a Rama entered inside the hermitage and saw therein the sanctus of Brahma, Agni, Vishnu, Indra, Vivasvat the Sun god, Soma the Moon god, Bhaga, and the sanctusms of Kubera, are seen and passed by the three of them, sanctums of Dhaata, Vidhaata, santucm of Vayu, and also like that the sanctum of great soled Varuna the wielder of noose, and the sanctum of Gayatri, sanctum of Vasus, and the sanctum of Naga king, and even the sanctum of Garuda and the sanctum of Kaartikeya and the sanctum of Dharma b, a Then encircled by disciples the sage Agastya came out quickly, and Rama saw him who is glowing brilliant before all the other sages.
vrm.3.12 "This sacred bow that is decorated with gold and diamonds is crafted by the divine architect Vishvakarma pertains to Vishnu, and these unwasteful arrows equalling sun in their blaze are the gift of Brahma.
vrm.3.12 "By this bow, oh, Rama, once Vishnu eliminated horrible Asuras in war and brought back radiant prosperity to the Devas.
vrm.3.23 b, a "Let Raghava triumph over these mighty Nisacharas from the lineage of Pulastya, as with Vishnu who once conquered all the mighty Asuras in war.
vrm.3.28 That which is a very admirable bow of Vishnu and that which is awarded by great sage Agastya, upraising that choicest bow Rama rushed towards Khara.
vrm.3.30 b, Aha"! Surprising is this great deed of Rama, the shrewd soul, what a valour, what a fortitude, really, his valour and fortitude are like those of Vishnu.
vrm.3.31 "Evoking indignation in me it is really impossible for Indra to be happy even for Kubera no for Yama no why them, even Vishnu cannot be happy.
vrm.3.32 His body bears hundreds of welts caused when assaulted with Vishnu disc for hundreds of times in wars with Gods, and when assaulted for hundreds of times with the other assaults missiles in other gruesome wars as well, and Shuurpanakha saw at such a Ravana.
vrm.3.61 Oh, insightful brother, you will reacquire Janaka s daughter Maithili, as Vishnu once subjugated Emperor Bali and reacquired this earth.
vrm.3.68 Even those two, Rama and Lakshmana, on performing water oblations in respect of that best bird Jatayu, and on assertively giving thought to the information given by Jatayu, they like the chiefs of Gods, namely Vishnu and Indra, went to southerly woods when their mind is set to search for Seetha.
vrm.4.28 "Sleep is slowly getting closer to Vishnu, rivers are rapidly getting closer to oceans, cranes are gleefully getting closer to clouds, and women are passionately getting closer to their beloveds.
vrm.4.37 In a split second, the vanara s that are sent by the king of vanara s have skyrocketed to the airways of Birds and stars on their way, and indeed reached the vault of heaven, which was once trodden by Vishnu.
vrm.4.40 "On that Shalmali Island in Wine Ocean you will be seeing the mansion of Vinata s son, namely Garuda, the Eagle vehicle of Vishnu, which is decorated with numerous jewels, and which in sheen will be like Mountain Kailasa, the abode of Shiva.
vrm.4.40 "Earlier while treading the three worlds in the incarnation of Trivikrama, the Supreme Person Vishnu made His first foothold on that pinnacle Saumanasa, and the second on the pinnacle of Mountain Meru to tread the heavens.
vrm.4.42 Sugreeva ordered the superb Vanara son of great sage Maricha, called Arcishman, to western direction, who is a surrounded with exceptional and braving Vanaras, a coequal to Indra in his resplendence, endowed with brilliance and bravery and whose speed equals that of the son of Vinata, namely Garuda, the Eagle vehicle of Vishnu.
vrm.4.42 puraaNa/Legend: "Once upon a time in the crusades of Gods Rakshasas, Vishnu assuming the form of Purosottama Supreme Person slew the Horse faced Asura named Hayagreeva on that mountain, and snatched away the wheel weapon from him.
vrm.4.42 Thus the conch shell handled by Vishnu is known as Panchajanya shankha Panchajanya conch.
vrm.4.43 "The God and Cosmic Souled Vishnu and Shambhu or Shiva, an embodiment of eleven selfsame Souls, called Ekaadasha Rudra s and the god of Gods Brahma who is surrounded by Brahmarshis, will be sojourning on that Mountain Soma.
vrm.4.58 and I have even seen those empyrean worlds that were triply trodden by Vishnu, and the intermediary regions of upper and lower worlds where Devas and Asuras combated ghastlily, and because I am that aged I have also seen the unseeable
vrm.4.65 Once I have performed circumambulation around the Omnipresent and Eternal Vishnu in His incarnation as Trivikrama, when He grandiosely increased His physique from that of a Divine Dwarfish Brahman boy to that of an Omnidirectional Being, thus filling whole of the Universe to tread
vrm.4.66 As with Vishnu who trod the triad of worlds in a trice, you too triumph over.
vrm.4.67 Shall I penetrate the supportless sky in a split second, like an electric flash rocketing from a black cloud in a trice? When I am jumping over the ocean, now my aspect will indeed become like that of Vishnu who in those days easily paced the triad of worlds
vrm.5.1 Hanuma greatly reducing His size became normal in nature regaining His original form, like Vishnu who mitigated the strength of Bali by taking three strides.
vrm.5.10 Those arms had wounds made by stabbing from the pointed edges of tusks of Iravata and fleshy shoulders smeared with diamond and hit by Vishnu chakra.
vrm.5.21 "My husband who is a destroyer of foes will take me away from you like Lord Vishnu with three steps taking away the brilliant prosperity from Asuras.
vrm.5.27 Rama" with strength equalling that of Lord Vishnu, born in Raghu s dynasty together with brother Lakshmana and with Seetha has been seen by me thus in the dream.
vrm.5.34 Like Vishnu, he is greatly renowned and endowed with valour.
vrm.5.37 "O Seetha! Now itself, you can see Rama together with Lakshmana, getting ready for a strenuous effort to annihilate the Rakshasas, as Vishnu the Lord of Preservation getting ready for killing of Rakshasas.
vrm.5.50 Are you, the one who has entered our city, assuming the guise of a spy, sent by Kubera or by Yama or by Varuna or whether sent by Vishnu, as a messenger, longing for a victory?
vrm.5.50 I have no friendship with Kubera, nor am I instigated by Vishnu.
vrm.5.51 "The renowned Rama, who is equal in prowess to Vishnu is the foremost among Devas or Asuras or men, or among hordes of Yakshas or among all Vidyadharas, or among Gandharvas or among Uragas or among Siddhas or among excellent Kinnaras or among Patatris Suparnas or among all living beings at all places and at all times.
vrm.5.54 "Whether the rage of four faced Brahma, the grand father of all and the creator of all has arrived here in the guise of a Vanara, playing the role of a destroyer of Rakshasas?" "Or whether a supreme bright energy of Vishnu, the lord of maintenance of the Universe, unthinkable, unmanifest, infinite and pearless, arrived now, assuming the form of a Vanara for the destruction of Rakshasas, by virtue of Her extraordinary power?" Thus spoke all those excellent troops of Rakshasas in multitude, gathering together there, on seeing that city scorched so soon, with its host of living beings, houses and trees.
vrm.5.58 "Then, all living beings praised me! Saying Good! Well done! Bravo! Thereupon, I leapt into the extensive sky, like Garuda the eagle, the carrier of Lord Vishnu.
vrm.6.24 The City of Lanka was constructed thick with many seven storied building and appears like a sky the abode of Vishnu covered with white clouds.
vrm.6.33 Your consort along with Lakshmana will show his valor against the Rakshasas, like Indra along with Vishnu the lord of preservation, the annihilator of enemies exhibited his strength over his adversaries.
vrm.6.35 "I deem Rama of firm fortitude as Vishnu dwelling in human form.
vrm.6.39 The city of Lanka, greatly adorned by palaces and seven storied mansions, looked like the sky with clouds at the end of a summer and as a region of Vishnu between earth and heaven.
vrm.6.43 Nila chopped the head of the charioteer of Nikumbha by the wheel of the same chariot in that fight, as Vishnu in a battle.
vrm.6.56 That great Vanara, born of Maruta having encountered and killed the Rakshasas, enjoyed the same renown as Vishnu when he overcame the mighty and terrific Rakshasa of immense power destroying his enemies in the forefront of the battle.
vrm.6.59 Lakshmana, though wounded in the breast by Brahma s weapon, recollected that he was an inconceivable fraction of Vishnu Himself.
vrm.6.59 Healed and free from that lance, Lakshmana the annihilator of his foes, recollected of himself as a part of the inconceivable Vishnu the Lord of Preservation.
vrm.6.59 Meanwhile, Hanuma approaching Rama spoke the following words: You have to punish the Rakshasa by climbing my back, as Vishnu on Garuda in order to fight with the Enemy of Gods.
vrm.6.59 The mighty Rama became angry on seeing him and rushed upon that Ravana like unto Vishnu with his uplifted mace rushed upon Virochana.
vrm.6.69 Beaten down by me, as Shambara by Indra and Naraka by Vishnu, I will lay down Rama today in battle.
vrm.6.69 Devantaka, holding a glided iron bar, marched ahead, resembling an incarnation of Vishnu holding Mandara mountain in his arms.
vrm.6.71 Seeing his form appearing like Vishnu who strided over the three worlds in three steps, the those renowned Vanara warriors with fear, ran away hither and thither.
vrm.6.71 Vishnu, as a boy occupied the three worlds just with his three strides, Didnt he? Hearing the reasonable and highly meaningful words of Lakshmana, Atikaya was very much enraged and took out an excellent arrow.
vrm.6.73 Now itself, Indra, Vaivasvata yama, Vishnu, Rudra, Sadhyas, Vaishvanara fire god, Surya and Chandra sun and moon can see my unlimited prowess, like the terrific prowess of Vishnu during the sacrifice of Bali.
vrm.6.74 Beholding the sea, whose waves along with its water were made to agitate and all whose creatures were caused to whirl round, Hanuma quickly speeded up, like the discuss loosed by the fingers of Lord Vishnu.
vrm.6.74 In the sky, with that mountain in his hand, that Hanuma the offspring of the wind god, who resembled a mountain himself, appeared mostly like Vishnu with his flaming discuss with its thousand edges holding his hand.
vrm.6.91 Having offered his salutation and approached Rama, Lakshmana stood beside his brother, even as Indra s brother Vishnu would stand beside Indra
vrm.6.94 Rama", coming in the form of either Rudra the lord of destruction or Vishnu, the lord of preservation, or Indra who performed one hundred ritual sacrifices, or otherwise Yama, the Lord of Death himself, is killing us.
vrm.6.99 Having driven away the army of Vanaras, Ravana the foremost among the Rakshasas then saw Rama, the annihilator of his enemies, who was endowed with long arms and eyes as wide as lotus petals standing unconquered with his brother Lakshmana like Indra is seen with Vishnu, the supreme lord of preservation holding up his great bow as though scraping the sky.
vrm.6.105 "He is Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Skanda, Prajapati, Indra, Kubera the bestower of riches, Kala, Yama, Soma the moon god and Varuna, the lord of waters.
vrm.6.105 "Hail to you, the giver of victory, hail to you, the joy born of victory! Hail to you, the god with green Horses, hail to you, having thousands of rays! Hail, hail to you the son of Aditi! "Hail to you, the fierce one, hail to you the valiant one! Hail to you, the one with variegated colours! Hail to you, the awakener of the louts, hail to you, the furious one!" "Hail to you, the ruler of Brahma, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu the infallible, the sun god, the light indwelling the solar orb, the resplendent one, the devourer of all, appearing in form of Rudra.
vrm.6.111 But for Indra, where is the capacity even to behold you in battle? "This Rama is certainly a great ascetic, an eternal person, having no beginning middle or end, greater than distinguished universal spirit like Brahma, the one beyond ignorance, the nourisher, wielding a conch, a disc and a mace, wearing the Srivatsa mark on his chest, of lasting beauty, incapable of being conquered, a perpetual one, being the constant soul of the universe, truly mighty, the lord of all the worlds, the prosperous one having a great splendour and Vishnu, with a wish to benefit the worlds, assuming a human form surrounded by all the Gods in the form of Vanaras, Rama killed you, surrounded by Rakshasas.
vrm.6.117 Seetha" is no other than Lakshmi, while you are divine Vishnu.
vrm.6.128 He is indeed the eternal Vishnu.
vrm.6.128 Let there be happiness to you! Let the strength of Vishnu increase! By studying and listening to this, all the Gods get appeased.
vrm.7.3 Formerly she was renounced by the Rakshasas afflicted wiih the fear of Vishnu ;and was empty of swarms of Rakshas, who had gone to the nethermost regions.
vrm.7.4 the name of that one of terriic strength ?And through what transgression were they driven out by Vishnu ?All this, O sinless one, do thou tell me in detail, and do thou dispell my curiosity even as the sun dispells darkness.
vrm.7.6 I am Vishnu, I am Rudra, I am the king of the Devas, I am Yama, I am Varuna, I am the Moon, I am the Sun, flattering themselves in this fashion, Mali and Sumali and the Rakshasa Malyavan as well as those going before them, are annoying the gods, breathing exhilaration of martial spirits.
vrm.7.6 Do ye, ye Maharshis, in the heat of this afair, seek the shelter of Vishnu.
vrm.7.6 Thereat, saluting Maheshvara with the sounds of Jaya, the Devas afflicted with the fear of the night rangers, presented themselves before Vishnu.
vrm.7.6 Thus addressed by the mighty Vishnu, the gods, highly rejoiced, went to their respective quarters, extolling Janardana.
vrm.7.6 And, O lord of Rakshasas, there is no occasion for Vishnu s displeasure of us.
vrm.7.6 The mind of Vishnu hath wavered in consequence of the evil caused by the Devas.
vrm.7.7 And Vishnu of a bright brown blue hue, being surrounded by the lower of the night rangers with dark visages, resembled the mountain, Anjana, on which the clouds pour down.
vrm.7.7 And with sharpened arrows resembl ing the thunder, and endowed with the velocity of the wind, shot from his bow drawn to its fullest stretch, Vishnu cut of Rakshasas by hundreds and by thousands.
vrm.7.7 And the wounds on the persons of the foes inlicted by the discus of Vishnu discharge blood in streams, like mountains discharging streams of red chalk.
vrm.7.7 And the sounds of that king of conchs, as well as those of the Sarnga, combined with the roars emitted by Vishnu himself, swallowed up the roars of the Rakshasas.
vrm.7.7 And even as an elephant pursueth a tiger, a tiger a wolf, a wolf a dog, a dog a cat, a cat a snake, or a snake a rat, so the mighty Vishnu pursueth the Rakshasa host ;and others, struck down by him, measure their lengths on the ground.
vrm.7.7 And Vishnu cut of the head flaming with ear rings of the charioteer of the shouting Sumali ;and thereat the horses of that Rakshasa aimlessly strayed hither and thither.
vrm.7.7 And on Sumali s car being drawn at random by his steeds, Mali, taking his bow and equipped therewith, dated at Vishnu s car and assailed that mighty armed one as he was descending on the field of fight.
vrm.7.7 And thereat, as a person holding his senses under subjection is not thrown out of his mental balance, Vishnu, assailed in that encounter with thousands of arrows shot by Mali, was not disturbed ever so little.
vrm.7.7 And that head of the lord of Rakshasas, terrific to behold, on being cut of by Vishnu, vomitting blood, fell down before the Rakshasas, as formerly Rahu s head had fallen.
vrm.7.8 And now there arose a mighty tumult in the sky of Excellent! Excellent And having struck Vishnu, the Rakshasa also hit Garura.
vrm.7.8 And albeit inlated with pride, they, incapable of coping with Vishnu, leaving Lanka, went to the nether regions with their wives for dwelling there.
vrm.7.8 And that powerful Rakshasa, Sumali, afflicted with the fear of Vishnu, along with his sons and grand sons for a long time ranged the nether regions, and the lord of riches resided in Lanka.
vrm.7.11 Coming to know that his daughter s sons, Ravana and his two brothers, got powerful boons form God Brahma, Sumali shed all his fear of Vishnu.
vrm.7.11 He embracing and complimenting Ravana, said, "Dear Ravana! From fear of Vishnu, we are residing in Rasatala.
vrm.7.11 Notwithstanding the fraternal relationship between Devas and the Daityas their mothers Aditi and Diti also being sisters the daughters of Daksha by Dharani the Devas got the Daityas killed through Vishnu and got this earth also and became the Lords of all the three worlds.
vrm.7.11 The Devas with the help of Vishnu, forced us to leave this land, and repair to other domains.
vrm.7.14 And wounded in the conflict by Sanyodhakantaka with his discus, as if by Vishnu hismself, Maricha toppled down to the ground from the mountain, like unto a planet whose merit hath waned, And in a moment regaining his consciousness and resting for a while, that night ranger fought with the Yaksha ;and thereat, on being defeated, he fled.
vrm.7.17 My father s intended son in law was even Vishnu sovereign of the Devas, and the lord of the triune world ;and my father would not bestow me on any other.
vrm.7.17 Who is he whom thou callest Vishnu ?O mild one, neither in prowess, nor in asceticism, nor in enjoyment, nor in strength, is he my equal, whom, O damsel, thou seekest.
vrm.7.17 Thus accosted, Vedavati said unto the night ranger Do not say so in respect of Vishnu, lord of this triune sphere, bowed down unto by all creatures.
vrm.7.17 Thou are the eternal Vishnu.
vrm.7.20 And even as Vishnu had pleased me by destroying the Daityas, thou pleased me by harassing the Gandharvas and Nagas.
vrm.7.24 Being thus addressed by Bali Ravana said I have heard, O illustrious sir, that formerly thou wast bound by Vishnu.
vrm.7.24 The glorious Hari, the lord Vishnu, knoweth only how to bring about their destruction who perpetually assail the Devas.
vrm.7.31 Having got up and been influenced by lust he took her, shameful as she was, by the hand and smiling said: "Where art thou going, O beautiful damsel ?Whom art thou going of thy own accord to satisfy ?Whose prosperous time hath appeared, with whom thou shalt enjoy ?Who shall be satisfied with dinking the nectar of thy mouth smelling like lotus ?Whose breast, O fare damsel, thy rising breast beautiful like two golden pots closely placed, shall touch ?Who is there so beautiful as I Indra, Vishnu, or two Aswins that thou art passing by me ?Do thou take rest upon this excellent rock, O thou having charming waist.
vrm.7.32 And Mahendra, afraid of Ravana, poorly went to Vishnu and gave vent to the following accents: How shall I, O Vishnu, withstand, the Rakshasa Ravana? The highly powerful Rakshasa hath come here for battle.
vrm.7.32 Without slaying the enemies in the encounter, Vishnu doth never go back but it is hard to fulfill my desire from Ravana, well protected by the boon.
vrm.7.35 Ahalya having said this, Gautama replied "In the race of Ikshwakus, there shall be born a highly effulgent and mighty car warrior, known in the world as Rama ;for performing the rites of a Brahman, the mighty armed Vishnu, assuming a human form, shall repair to the forest.
vrm.7.35 Having controlled thy senses, do thou soon undertake a sacrifice in honor of Vishnu.
vrm.7.35 Hearing this and having celebrated the sacrifice in honor of Vishnu he again went to the region of Devas and reigned there as their king.
vrm.7.37 Beholding Ravana thus overwhelmed, Arjuna sprung up and caught him like Garuda holding a serpant and Vishnu binding Bali.
vrm.7.44 He sporteth, is eternal, the lord of men, Vishnu, Purana and the only destroyer of the world.
vrm.7.46 Those, who are slain in the encounter with his bow bent by Vishnu the holder of discus and the preserver of the world, attain to the celestial region.
vrm.7.46 Thou art the eternal Vishnu.
vrm.7.48 Thereupon, Rama, at first saluted and went round him and then Yudhajit, the son of Kekaya, went away to his kingdom in the company of Lakshmana like unto Indra leaving for home in the company of Vishnu on the destruction of the Asura Vritra.
vrm.7.61 And angry on beholding his wife slain, Bhrigu, imprecated a curse on Vishnu, the slayer of enemies race, saying "Being beside thyself with anger thou hast slain my wife, not worthy of being killed ;therefore, O Janardana, thou shalt be born in the region of mortals.
vrm.7.61 Having imprecated this curse, Bhrigu was greatly pained and being propitiated by his adoration, Vishnu, fond of disciples, said "Having slain Ravana and others, I shall be, for the behoof of mankind, subject to this imprecation.
vrm.7.61 O bestower of kings, the highly effulgent Vishnu, thus imprecated by Bhrigu in the days of yore, hath been born as thy son in this birth and hath been celebrated under the appellation of Rama.
vrm.7.63 When Vishnu assuming a human person shall be born in the Vasudeva family of Yaduvas and enhance their glory he shall liberate thee from the curse.
vrm.7.71 Thou art the chastiser of the three worlds, the eternal Vishnu.
vrm.7.72 Having destroyed the creation and entered water, the highly effulgent Vishnu, identical with the souls of creatures, lay asleep there for many long years.
vrm.7.72 Beholding Vishnu asleep after the destruction of the universe and knowing Vishnu of obstructed breath, the great ascetic Brahma entered his abdomen.
vrm.7.72 Thereupon, when a golden lotus sprang from Vishnu s navel.
vrm.7.82 This effulgent, ever existing arrow was made by the Primeval, Deity, Vishnu the lord of creatures.
vrm.7.82 My children, the burning arrow, of which you are afraid, was made by the high minded Vishnu for slaying the demons Madhu and Kaitabha.
vrm.7.82 And Vishnu alone is cognizant of its energy.
vrm.7.82 This Satrughna is the first portion of Vishnu s person ;do ye all go hence and behold the destruction of the foremost Rakshasa, Lavana, by the high souled, heroic Satrughna, the younger brother of Rama.
vrm.7.97 He being thus engaged is asceticism, Indra, greatly terrified, approached Vishnu and said "O thou having long arms, by virtue of his asceticism Vritra is about to conquer all the worlds.
vrm.7.97 O Vishnu, from the time he succeeded in propitiating thee, he hath obtained the sovereignty of the three worlds.
vrm.7.97 O Vishnu, all the Devas are waiting for thee ;do thou help them by slaying Vritra.
vrm.7.98 "Hearing the words of Indra and other Devas Vishnu replied From before I am bound with the high souled Vritra by the ties of fiendship.
vrm.7.98 Vishnu, the god of gods, having said this, the Devas replied, saying "O slayer of demons, undoubtedly, what thou hast said, shall prove true ;may victory crown thee ;we proceed now to slay Vritra.
vrm.7.98 Beholding the enemy slain and Indra fled, the Devas headed by fire again and again chanted the glories of Vishnu the lord of three worlds, saying "O great god, thou at the refuge of the three worlds.
vrm.7.98 For protecting all creatures thou hast assumed this Vishnu form.
vrm.7.98 Hearing the words of the Devas Vishnu said "Let your Chief celebrate a sacrifice in my honor and by that he shall be cleansed of the sin.
vrm.7.98 Having addressed these nectar like words to the Devas and being glorified by them, Vishnu, the god of gods, returned to his abode.
vrm.7.99 In this wise, the time of the destruction of creatures having arrived, the Devas being stricken with anxiety, according to the previous command of Vishnu, engaged in celebrating the sacrifice With Rishis and Ritwikas they fearfully approached Purandara ;and beholding him assailed by the sin of Brahmanicide, they with him, at their head, engaged in celebrating a horse sacrifice.
vrm.7.99 Thereupon Indra worshipped Vishnu in the shape of that wonderful sacrifice.
vrm.7.111 Recollect thy former state of Vishnu and the counsels.
vrm.7.111 Do thou now once more remember thy birth from Vishnu.
vrm.7.117 Thereupon for concerting means for the preservation of creatures, thou didst renounce thy irrepressible shape and assume Vishnu form.
vrm.7.117 And if dost thou wish to repair to the region of immortals, do thou again lord over the Devas in thy Vishnu form and let them be freed from anxiety.
vrm.7.119 Thereupon beholding Lakshmana, the fouth portion of Vishnu arived at their city the Devas were greatly delighted and engaged in his worship.
vrm.7.123 Thereupon the Patriarch gave vent to the following accents from tho welkin "Come O Vishnu ;may good betide thee ;by our good fortune thou art coming here; O Raghava hear O thou having mighty arms, do thou enter here with thy brothers, resembling the Devas in billiance in whatever form thou likest either in that of the sky or in thy own vishnu form.
vrm.7.123 Hearing the words of the Patriarch and determining everything the high minded Rama entered there bodily with his brothers in his Vishnu form.
vrm.7.123 Thereupon all the Devas Sadhyas Maruts, headed by Indra and Agni worshipped that deity, Vishnu.
vrm.7.123 Thereupon the highly effulgent Vishnu said to the Patriarch Brahma: "It behoveth thee, O thou of good vows, to allot to those people their proper regions.
vrm.7.123 Hearing the words of Vishnu, the lord Brahma, father of all creatures, said: All these people who have come here shall go to the region named Santanaka.
vrm.7.123 This region is intended even for him, who though born in the most degraded state, thinks of all objects as Vishnu.
