Karna Parva describes the battle where the Kauravas were led by Karna as their commander in chief. Though Arjuna had defeated Karna in previous battles, Karna was fighting with all his might in the battle of Kurukshetra. He humiliated Pandava king Yudhishthira and many other Pandava heroes and Arjuna could not annihilate him. However in one of the battles, the chariot wheel of Karna slipped into mud in the battlefield. Karna also had a quarrel with his charioteer Shalya who himself was a warrior and a king of the Madra kingdom, but acted as Karna's driver compelled by Duryodhana. Because of all of these Karna was feeling low and was not at his best. Seeing the opportunity, Arjuna hit Karna with sharp arrows.
