MAHABHARATA NOUN

See All Nouns, See All Categories

Mbh.1.89.4901 Destiny is supreme.
Mbh.1.89.4903 Knowing Destiny to be all-powerful, the wise, whatever their portions may be, should neither exult nor grieve.
Mbh.1.89.4904 When creatures know that their weal and woe are dependent on Destiny and not on their own exertion or power, they should neither grieve nor exult, remembering that Destiny is all powerful.
Mbh.1.89.4906 When Destiny is supreme, both grief and exultation are unbecoming.
Mbh.2.17.737 Aided by good policy, if not frustrated by Destiny, an undertaking becomes crowned with success.
Mbh.2.58.2415 We all are under the control of Destiny.
Mbh.2.69.3011 Know ye for certain that this great calamity that threatens to overtake the Bharatas hath been sent by Destiny itself.
Mbh.2.78.3386 Destiny is supreme, I cannot abandon them.
Mbh.3.65.3272 Nothing that befalleth men is due to anything else than Destiny, for even in my childhood I did not commit any such sin in thought, word, or deed, whence might come this calamity.
Mbh.3.107.5487 And hearing the words, the same king became senseless with wrath, and then told them all, carried away by Destiny, Go ye all, may ye never return!
Mbh.3.110.5698 As Destiny would have it, and as the word of the creator would not be untrue, in that same hind was born his Vibhandaka's son a mighty saint.
Mbh.3.156.7883 And here he saw his two brothers and the noble-minded Draupadi on the shoulders of the demon, and Sahadeva on the ground rebuking the Rakshasa and also that stupid Rakshasa himself deprived of sense by Fate, going round in different directions through bewilderment caused by Destiny.
Mbh.3.160.8151 These Yakshas and Rakshasas had already been slain by Destiny: thy brother hath been the instrument merely.
Mbh.3.178.8821 Do thou behold the dispensation of Destiny!
Mbh.3.182.9111 Men, O king, attain what they have in consequence of the grace of the gods of Destiny or of their own actions.
Mbh.3.207.10707 SECTION CCVII Markandeya continued, The pious fowler, O Yudhishthira, then said to that Brahmana, Undoubtedly my deeds are very cruel, but, O Brahmana, Destiny is all-powerful and it is difficult to evade the consequence of our past actions.
Mbh.3.234.11871 Indeed, how could this saying be true unless, as I think, it be that everything here is dependent on Destiny?
Mbh.3.271.13223 I incline to think that Time, and human Destiny that dependeth on our acts, and the Inevitable, are irresistible in respect of creatures.
Mbh.3.306.15023 And may, O son, that best of those that impart heat, viz, Surya, thy father, and from whom I have obtained thee as ordained by Destiny, protect thee everywhere!
Mbh.3.306.15035 Indeed, the excellent coat of mail and those ear-rings made of Amrita that were born with his body, as also the ordinance of Destiny, kept the child alive
Mbh.4.20.820 Nothing is difficult for Destiny and none can over-ride Destiny.
Mbh.4.20.833 That the mighty-armed and terrible bowman, Dhananjaya the son of Pritha, should now live like a fire that hath been put out, maketh me think of all this as attributable to Destiny.
Mbh.5.8.289 Thou shouldst not be aggrieved at this; for Destiny is all powerful in this world; and, O Yudhishthira, high-minded persons have to endure miseries of various kinds, nay, even the gods themselves, O king, have suffered misfortunes.
Mbh.5.39.2055 Indeed, the Creator hath made man subject to Destiny.
Mbh.5.40.2219 Indeed, Destiny, I think, is certain to take its course; individual exertion is futile
Mbh.5.51.2928 Destiny is everywhere powerful, especially in the case of a male person, for beholding the victory of the Pandavas in battle, I do not yet restrain my sons.
Mbh.5.77.3802 One should, hence, engage in work knowing that one's purpose would be achieved by a combination of both Destiny and Exertion.
Mbh.5.146.6546 Destiny is all.
Mbh.6.59.3206 The royal Bhishma, hearing these words, replied unto the chief of the Yadus, saying, Destiny is all powerful.
Mbh.6.65.3517 Everything that hath happened seemeth to be due to Destiny, O Sanjaya.
Mbh.6.76.4030 That so large an army, mustered according to science, and attached to us by wealth, should yet be slaughtered in battle, alas, what can it be but the result of Destiny?
Mbh.6.84.4381 All this, without doubt, is Destiny
Mbh.6.104.5579 For this reason, O tiger among men, a dreadful destruction of kinsmen is taking place, caused either by Destiny or by thy evil policy, O king
Mbh.6.124.6894 Destiny is incapable of being avoided by exertion.
Mbh.6.124.6909 Who was there that would venture to overcome Destiny by exertion?
Mbh.7.9.309 Destiny I regard to be all powerful, exertion is fruitless.
Mbh.7.11.438 The foolish Duryodhana, who doth not know Krishna or Kesava, seems, through Destiny, to have Death's noose before him.
Mbh.7.11.454 Things calculated in one way, O son, even by men of intelligence, become otherwise through Destiny.
Mbh.7.111.5358 What can it, therefore, be but Destiny that even such an army should be slain?
Mbh.7.111.5380 What can it be but Destiny?
Mbh.7.118.5745 O Suta, I think, Destiny is now unpropitious to my sons, since so many mighty car-warriors have been slain by that one warrior of the Satwata race, Alas, O Sanjaya, my army is no match for even one warrior, viz, Yuyudhana inflamed with wrath.
Mbh.7.132.6563 SECTION CXXXIV Dhritarashtra said, I think, Destiny is supreme.
Mbh.7.155.8314 When a person mentally resolves to bear a burden, Destiny itself aids him in the execution.
Mbh.8.2.51 He that is wise never feeleth any pain at what Destiny bringeth!
Mbh.8.2.52 And since Destiny is unconquerable, human purposes may or may not become attainable.
Mbh.8.2.55 I regard all this to be the result of Destiny!
Mbh.8.31.1365 Without doubt, Destiny is supreme.
Mbh.8.31.1373 Destiny, indeed, is supreme'
Mbh.8.92.5896 Destiny, however, has certainly flowed, controlled by Partha.
Mbh.8.92.5897 It is for this that Destiny is protecting the Pandavas and weakening us.
Mbh.8.92.5901 This is Destiny.
Mbh.9.22.1499 Behold the course of Destiny!
Mbh.9.27.1910 Through the influence of Destiny, only I have been saved!
Mbh.9.27.1938 Thou, O son, are now in every way the sole staff of the blind monarch, bereft of foresight, afflicted with calamity, struck by Destiny, and who, though repeatedly dissuaded, could not abstain from pursuing his evil policy.
Mbh.9.54.3861 What can it be but Destiny?
Mbh.9.57.4152 I think all this to be the work of irresistible Destiny.
Mbh.9.61.4439 Indeed, Destiny is supreme!
Mbh.9.63.4585 Destiny, however, is incapable of being frustrated
Mbh.10.2.97 All men are subjected to and governed by these two forces, Destiny and Exertion.
Mbh.10.2.109 Sometimes, Destiny, having settled a course of events, acts of itself without waiting for exertion.
Mbh.10.8.540 Afflicted before by Destiny, they were now smitten by Drona's son who terrified them all with the frightful roars uttered by him.
Mbh.10.8.541 Afflicted by Destiny, the brave warriors of the Pandava camp, recollecting the sight they had seen in their dreams, identified it with what they now witnessed.
Mbh.11.1.30 This destruction of all my kinsmen, this extermination of all my well-wishers and friends, at this old age, has come upon me through the force of Destiny.
Mbh.11.8.334 It is my opinion that the course marked out by Destiny cannot be controlled by anyone, even if one struggles for eternity.
Mbh.11.8.352 Through the influence of Destiny his brothers also became like him.
Mbh.12.16.720 It seems that Destiny is all-powerful.
Mbh.12.22.951 Destiny, O tiger among kings, is incapable of being resisted
Mbh.12.27.1239 All this is Destiny, O puissant one!
Mbh.12.28.1280 The absence, of what is agreeable, the presence of what is disagreeable, good and evil, bliss and woe, follow Destiny.
Mbh.12.28.1288 High birth, health, beauty, prosperity, and objects of enjoyment, are all won through Destiny.
Mbh.12.28.1291 Wonderful is the course of Destiny.
Mbh.12.28.1292 The evils caused by disease, fire, water, weapons, hunger, poison, fever, and death, and falls from high places, overtake a man according to the Destiny under which he is born.
Mbh.12.32.1713 If, again, Destiny be the result of the acts of former lives, then no sin can attach to one in this life even as the sin of cutting down a tree cannot touch the maker of the axe
Mbh.12.49.2595 It was ordained of yore by Destiny, O amiable one!
Mbh.12.103.5837 Destiny should be regarded as all powerful.
Mbh.12.104.5928 Do not applaud Exertion in the presence of thy foe but speak highly of Destiny.
Mbh.12.138.8194 Destiny and Exertion exist, depending upon each other.
Mbh.12.138.8195 They that are of high souls achieve good and great feats, while eunuchs only pay court to Destiny.
Mbh.12.175.10528 If he could ascribe either of them to the action of Destiny, he would not then feel glad when happiness came or miserable when sorrow overtook him.
Mbh.12.176.10587 This is only the result of Destiny.
Mbh.12.176.10589 Or, if the existence of anything like Exertion as an agent in the production of results be admitted, a deeper search would discover Destiny to be at the bottom
Mbh.12.179.10844 They seek to change such professions for other pursuits that are more dignified but then they are bound by their own acts of a previous life and by the force of Destiny.
Mbh.12.194.11704 The felicity that he feels who has succeeded in controlling his mind and senses is such that its like can never be obtained through Exertion or Destiny
Mbh.12.231.14375 Some learned persons say that Destiny is supreme, and some that it is Nature which is the agent.
Mbh.12.231.14376 Others say that Acts flowing from personal exertion, and Destiny, produce effects, aided by Nature.
Mbh.13.1.21 Bhishma replied, Why, O fortunate one, dost thou consider thy soul, which is dependent on God and Destiny and Time to be the cause of thy actions?
Mbh.13.6.372 SECTION VI Yudhishthira said, Tell me, O learned sire that art versed in all the scriptures, of Exertion and Destiny which is the most powerful'
Mbh.13.6.374 In olden times the adorable Vasishtha enquired of Brahma as to which among these two, viz, the Karma of a creature acquired in this life, or that acquired in previous lives and called Destiny, is the more potent in shaping his life.
Mbh.13.6.381 As, unsown with seed, the soil, though tilled, becomes fruitless, so, without individual Exertion, Destiny is of no avail.
Mbh.13.6.382 One's own acts are like the soil, and Destiny or the sum of one's acts in previous births is compared to the seed.
Mbh.13.6.387 Everything can be secured by Exertion: but nothing can be gained through Destiny alone, by a man that is wanting in personal Exertion.
Mbh.13.6.396 If one's Karma bore no fruit, then all actions would become fruitless, and relying on Destiny men would become idlers.
Mbh.13.6.397 He who, without pursuing the human modes of action, follows Destiny only, acts in vain, like unto the woman that has an impotent husband.
Mbh.13.6.398 In this world the apprehension that accrues from performance of good or evil actions is not so great if Destiny be unfavourable as one's apprehension of the same in the other world if Exertion be wanting while here
Mbh.13.6.399 Man's powers, if properly exerted, only follow his Destiny, but Destiny alone is incapable of conferring any good where Exertion is wanting.
Mbh.13.6.402 There is a constant rivalry between the deities and the Rishis, and if they all have to go through their Karma, still it can never be averted that there is no such thing as Destiny, for it is the latter that initiates all Karma.
Mbh.13.6.403 How does Karma originate, if Destiny form the prime spring of human action?
Mbh.13.6.409 Destiny thwarts not the man that has attained to virtue and righteousness.
Mbh.13.6.424 Destiny does not help the man that is steeped in spiritual ignorance and avarice.
Mbh.13.6.425 Even as a fire of small proportions, when fanned by the wind, becomes of mighty power, so does Destiny, when joined with individual Exertion, increase greatly in potentiality.
Mbh.13.6.426 As with the diminution of oil in the lamp its light is extinguished so does the influence of Destiny is lost if one's acts stop.
Mbh.13.6.429 The man that does not exert himself is never contented in this world nor can Destiny alter the course of a man that has gone wrong.
Mbh.13.6.430 So there is no authority inherent in Destiny.
Mbh.13.6.431 As the pupil follows one's own individual perception, so the Destiny follows Exertion.
Mbh.13.6.432 The affairs in which one's own Exertion is put forth, there only Destiny shows its hand.
Mbh.13.6.434 By the influence of Destiny, and by putting forth individual Exertion, do men attain to heaven.
Mbh.13.6.435 The combined aid of Destiny and Exertion, becomes efficacious
Mbh.13.12.804 Thus afflicted by Destiny, I am indulging in grief.
Mbh.13.29.3789 Without doubt, Destiny is incapable of being warded off or conquered by individual exertion, since, O lord, I am unable to acquire, notwithstanding these persistent efforts of mine, the object, upon the acquisition of which I have set my heart.
Mbh.13.56.5605 Through an irresistible decree of Destiny, the Kshatriyas and the Bhargavas will fall out.
Mbh.13.56.5614 The whole science of arms, O sinless one, in its embodied form will come to him, for the extermination of the entire Kshatriya race, through a decree of Destiny.
