The princess of the Matsya kingdom Uttara, like another Matsya princess Satyavati became the bride of the Kuru lineage kings. Uttara married Abhimanyu and gave rise to the next Kuru king after Yudhisthira viz. Parikshit. Matsyas were a native tribe who inhabited the Saraswati river basin, engaged in fisheries, and existed in this territory probably much before the Kurus.
