Kurujangala was the western province of the Kuru kingdom ruled by the Kurus. Dhritarashtra gave this province to Pandava Yudhisthira who made it into a prosperous country with Indraprastha as its capital. It was also known as the Jangala, meaning forest land. It was inhabited by forest dwelling tribes like the Nagas and Rakshasas. Jangala is mentioned in Mahabharata at Mbh 5.54:- Sanjaya to Dhritarashta:- "The country of the Kurus, including the region called Jangala is, O king, thy paternal kingdom". Jangala is also mentioned as one among the numerous provinces of Bharatavarsha at Mbh 6.9.
